Violet - i believe that in the song violet courtney is saying (like in lots of her other songs) i.e. celebrity skin, how Hollywood is not as glamorous as it looks, it is actually pretty obvious, GO ON TAKE EVERYTHING!.... it is about when you 'get what they want and they never want it again', and a regular rock stars lifes is CRAZY and almost inhuman, then there is courtney love..... ms. rockstar.

Violet - This song has Drugs written all over it. (it might last a day, yeah, mine is forever) meaning the high you get on heroin. And i used to think that the chorus (go on take everything...) was courtney saying, yeah, i did herion, but i stopped when i was pregnant, and you fucking took frances bean away becauase lynn couldn't keep her god damn mouth shut. then i realized she wrote this song in 1991, before that whole incident happened.

Violet - violet is about billy. Clove says so in so many interviews, and on some of the boots i have she's like this is about a jerk... "you should learn when to go, you should learn how to say no," i read somewhere that rozz (rezabek) wrote this in a letter to clove and i guess she punked it.

Violet - at first i thought this song was about drugs but after reading a book about courts i changed my mind. i think this song is about kat bjelland. violets just another name for her. like with "and the sky was all violets" shes saying kat was such a huge part of her life and with "i want it again but violet more violet" shes saying she misses her heaps and wants her back in her life. listen to the lyrics and shes talking about how happy she was but kat stole her persona until they were the same person and courtney had to destroy her. its like that charles manson quote: "i tried to save them but i couldn't controll them. now i've got to destroy them".

Violet - I never really thought of this song revolving around the concept of drugs. To me, it has always been talking about a relationship in which the guy uses the girl..."They get what they want and then they never want it again.." and Courtney getting sick and tired of this so she begins to feel a little helpless so she screams "Go on take everything, take everything I dare you to" just to see how far she would let someone hurt her. Finally, she talks about giving more violence to her violet..she is so incredibly angry that she has been used, she wants to get revenge and she says, "I get what I want and I never want it again." And the song ends with her getting revenge by getting out of the painful relationship. Anyway, the best thing about music lyrics is that they can be interpreted in anyway you want. Courtney probably didnt write the song even remotely close to what I think its about, but its just the meaning the song holds for me. Thanks, peace.

Violet - I've heard that this song was about Billy & Kurt. The two opening lines "and the sky was made of amethyst, and all the stars were just like little fish" Both guys are born in Feb. their birth stone is amethyst & their both Pisces. the next lines i think are bout herself & how she should leave billy "you should learn when to go, you should learn how to say no " the "might last a day, yeah mine is forever" i always though courtney was talking about her self esteem. like she might feel great that night being with him but it will haunt her forever. the next part i think is pretty obvious she's saying that the person is using her and then he tosses her aside. I think she's talking bout being used for sex. "well they get what they want, then they never want it again /well they get what they want, then they never want it again/" the go on take everything I think court is telling him that you're not really taking it from me i'm letting you. She's taking the power away from in the relationship "go on, take everything, take everything, i want you to/go on, take everything, take everything, i want you to"/ the next verse i always thought she was talking about some sort of storm. Maybe emotionally like leaving one lover for another. And now she kinda feels guilty about leaving him{the no soul part} "and the sky was all violet, i want it again, but violent more violent/and i'm the one with no soul, one above and one below" The part "/i told you from the start just how this would end/when i get what i want, then i never want it again /" she's laughing at him saying see i told you so i never needed you...i was using you too.

Violet - I think that this song is about somebody (possibly Courtney) is in a relationship with someone that takes everything from them and uses them all the time, HINT-Go on take evrything. And they finally get sick of it and kill them or like beat the shit out of them or something HINT- When they get what they want, they never want it again.

Violet - I have always thought that this song is about the way men treat women, '...go on take everything...'. I believe that Courtney is saying that men repress women, and she is tired of it, but it has been going on for so long, people just accept it.

Violet - I thought this song was about Kurt to the references of Pisces everywhere. "The sky was made of amethyst" Amethyst being Pisces Gemstone from Feb. 19-28th. Kurts bday being Feb. 20th. "and all the stars look just like little fish" Pisces symbol is Fish. "The sky was all Violet" Violet being Pisces flower...theres more I just cant remember them right.

Miss World - This song is without a doubt referenced to courtney being famous. She's saying, look i'm miss world, everybody loves me, but who gives a fuck??? I still get depressed, everyone believes all the rumors and lies about me. The media rapes me, girls only look up to me because i married a rock star (not true for all of us!!), so i just wish somebody would kill me. Just because your famous doesn't mean you have friends, they still won't listen to her.

Miss World - i think this song is about womens(& societys) views of themselves. The song also relates to the cover of LTT. She can't look herself in the eye because she lies about her body image. shes lying to herself about body image and her insecurities. the drug reference is that she feels alone and wants to die cuz she is winning these pagents which are sposed to make her feel better about herself but really they leave her numb.

By Laura Palomo

Miss World - I think the noun is lying about her happiness. This song is about a famous woman like Marilyn Manroe who took an overdose of drugs as a cry for help but no one "heard" and so she died in her bed. At the end of the song, turn it up really loud, courtney says "you're so sick" Courtney is actually disgusted with the noun's appearance or attitude. Also, with models there's an obsession to be thin andannorexic, what does the noun eat, "I eat ether" (the drugs)! There's fakeness, anorexia a deadly cocktail for death involved in this song.

Miss World - I think it's about the life of someone truly famous, and everything thinks it's so great to have all the money, and have everyone look up to you; people don't really know wht goes on behind the mask that the performer/actor/actress puts on for you. We may never know what hides beneath those choking smiles.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

By kat

Miss World - *this is not really my interpertation, but what the song is realy about.* here's the story: courtney is always getting into agruments with people about Paul McCartney. like if there was no paul there would be no 'Helter Skelter.' if there had been no 'Helter Skelter' there would be no sonic Youth. Anyway, so since nobody sticks up for Paul, she wrote a song (Miss world) about Paul.

By Miss Porcelain

Miss World - this song is so cringing... you know, all the misery POSSIBLE in a young girls life. its not just about suicide, or attention, it goes WAY BEYOND ALL THAT. it goes as far as saying "this is who i am, what i do, how i act, you wont except it, FUCK YOU." its about not being excepted for who you are...its about fake people PRETENDING to like you, when in fact they CANT STAND YOU. its all about the inner pain that people deal with...its about SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS AND NOT ONE PERSON ANSWERS.

Plump - this songs about bulemia. they say i'm plump but i throw up all the time. I think it was about when frances was taken away. She felt like shit cuz her baby was gone and she felt fat cuz she was just done w/ pregnancy, and she felt fat. i think i read that somewhere too.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

By lilith

Plump - can nobody else see this song is about pregnancy (i don't do the dishes/i throw them in the crinb)? about getting off heroin and feeling like pure shit as well as really bad morning sickness (they say i'm plump/but i throw up all the time) i also think its about accepting this new role as a wife and mother, that she had a role to fulfill for kurt and francs, and wether that was gonna leave her unfilled, wether it was going to kill her. and it covers alot of seld disgust aswell (the milks in my mouth/it makes me sick).

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

By Katie

Plump - believe the song is about her being pregnant. I read a book recently and she was saying that while she was pregnant, she didn't feel like doing much.-"I don't do the dishes, I throw them in the crib." And the other part is obvious.-"Some say I'm plump, but I throw up all the time." That is due to pregnancy too.

Plump - this song is mocking the media-abusing them actually-right around the time the took little bean away-they said she was unfit-so she told them how unfit she is

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

By genifure

Plump - this song isn't about courtney initially, but courtney wrote it as a protest against all those who dissed her during her pregnancy and addiction. it is a fight back against everyone who calls her a "slut", "fat bitch, or "whore". courtney sarcastically wrote these lyrics as a viewpoint of what other people think of her. it's basically making fun of everyone who has dissed her. the repulsiveness of the woman in plump is symbolic of the repulsiveness which society accuses courtney of. of course plump is not about an actual woman who sits around the house watching daytime TV. it's a mockery of those ideals.

Asking For It - I think this song is about looking really pretty and perfect for a man and then he cheats on you. She is asking him if she was asking for it , it meaning sex. I think that is when she wants to work things out with the man , but is telling him she's gonna give him hell for it first. It's a truely passionate song filled with meaning.. that's just my version of it..

By Shany

Asking For It - This is about rape. Sarcastically- again, "Was she asking for it?" (as Courtney once said), refers to the opinions involving a rape case such as "If she was dressing like that, she was probably asking for it" or "She didn't say no, she was asking for it" the whole "She deserved it" theory, who's used by the rapist to excuse themselves from this horrible deed. This about/for a woman who'd been called a "tramp", and because of that starting to feel so cheap, and losing her whole identity. She's been a rape victim, not only because of the actual rape act, but from society as well.

Asking For It - Asking For It, the name tells it all. It's about rape, and the disgusting people who do it. How often do we here rapists say, 'oh she was asking for it! look at how she was dressed!' I know I've heard it before! This song gives a message to the rapist, being, if she wanted it, how badly did she want it?
Hence the chorus line, 'was she asking for it, was she asking nice, if she was asking for it, did she ask you twice?'
It's also about trying to move on with life and reaching out for support. 'if you Live Through This I swear that I will die for you'

Asking For It - asking for it is about CLove stagediving. she stagedived once and the crowd ripped her clothes off her. Then someone put their finger in her "raping" her and she's asking whether its her fault. did she ask for it? she knew what could happen but did it anyway, so was it her fault?

By Jessica

Asking For It - This song is about like said earlier, RAPE. When rapist go to court a lot of the time they will get off because they said , well, she was wearing a short skirt or she was permiscous. Personally I belive this has nothing to do with the fact that she got raped. She never said hey, dude will you rape me cause I think i need to sufer and have a lot of extra pain added to my life. This is what she is saying when she sarcastically states "Did she ask you twice?" You could almost say "Did she beg you to rape her?"

Asking For It - this song is about fame and how she wanted it so bad but all the things that come with it might not be worth the glory of it all would she do it again-yeah she would.

Jennifer's Body - There is a movie called "Boxing Helena" where some guy who's a surgeon kidnaps a young girl, and amputates her arms and legs so she can't get away. Then, he keeps her in a box by his bed, and i think he wired her jaw shut so she couldn't scream. Needless to say I think a lot of the lines in "Jennifer's Body" refelct this movie. (he keeps you in, a box, by the bed, alive, but just barely) sounds a lot like the description i just gave. And the chorus (found pieces of jennifer's body) i.e. her arms and legs (creepy!!!) The last lines of the song will haunt me till the day i die ("Now.....She's....Mine") because she was just a stump, he owned her forever, and she couldn't even do anything to kill herself. Please, also note that this was a TRUE story. This did actually happen, so please no one get into cars with strangers! I don't want the most horrifying story i've ever heard to happen to a hole fan!!!

Jennifer's Body - I'm thinking this song is about wife beating and beieng totally in love with some guy who treats you like shit. You don't realise he treats you like shit because you are blinded by love. Every one tells you what a horrible guy he is but you just get paranoid and stop having friends. It's almost like there is no one else in this world except him.

Jennifer's Body - I think that what Phil said is awesome! I never knew that.. Courtney said its about getting tied up and liking it ..and that basically the second review is what is it too..I think that this song is one of the best Hole songs ever to be written and i believe it about knowing thats something is wrong..you can see it..but are you willing to believe it ..are you going to finally see..that what is going on isnt right and well..now your stuck in this hole..and now your hers.

Jennifer's Body - *this is is not actually my interpretation, but what the song is really about.* here's the story: kurt had this little crush on Juliana Hatfield. and he bragged to courtney about this one song she wrote, and about how good of a trapped girl song it was. so, courtney, got jealous and decided she could write a good trapped girl song.

Doll Parts - This is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. It's about the pain of not having something you want, of not being treated seriously, of not belonging. When you listen to it, you feel like you want to pick up that girl in your arms and hold her. She's been banned from society, she feels like an object, like a doll, there's one thing she wants, and that thing is hurting her most. She loves, but before you notice she hates, just like a little girl, and she screams from the top of her lungs, 'cause she don't want to disappear, she can't take this pain anymore. There's a dialog between the music and the lyrics in the verses- first a sentence, and than a few chords. Like talking to yourself, or writing a diary. No other word other than- beautiful.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

By katie

Doll Parts - i've read in interviews that courtney wrote this song when she thought kurt was cheating on her. the line "they really wantyou but i do too" really illustrates the pain that she's going through.the line "i want to be the girl with the most cake" refers to the"calvinists", followers of Olympia-based K-records founder CalvinJohnson. the calvinists lived in a clean child-like state of innocence, and would make cakes and give them dumb names, like "ugliest cake" and"prettiest cake".. so courtney love, who was not a big fan of johnson, said "*I* have the most cake of anyone in this town".

By Rose Poison

Doll Parts - I'm thinking it's about Kurt and how he had fame and how everyone wanted him and loved him but that she just wanted to love him too. She compares herself to a doll because all she feels like is Kurt's wife, the female and she wants not only fame and power too, but she wants Kurt's love.

Doll Parts - I think it is about wanting something or someone "i want to be the girl with the most cake" "yah the really want you, they really want you, they really do yah the really want you, they really want you, and i do too" see they want her/him/it and she's telling them, go, but i want you too "he only loves those things because he loves to see them break" he won't really love you, he just wants to see you break i think this is an amazing song, it always brings me to tears.

Doll Parts - *this is not actually my interpretation, but what the song is about.* doll parts is a nice little ditty relating [to and for] girls with low self-esteem. girls who view their bodies to be ugly and mutilate them.

Credit In The Straight World - Although Hole didn't write this song, I think that Credit in the Straight World it is about integrety and reputation according to the more conservative people of the world. How can you have integrety when you're on drugs [look a dealer in the eye/ go for credit in the straight world/won't you try].
