Celebrity Skin as an info video (meaning MTV shows it, and facts and info about it/the band pops up every now and then in one corner of the screen.)

  • This is the first single after frontwoman Courtney Love played in the film "The People vs. Harry Flint". (webmaster's comment: "Harry Flint"? I guess that's what we call BAD research!)
  • For this album Hole got some help from Smashing Pumpkin Billy Corgan.
  • The imagery in the video is inspired by the song's lyrics.
  • One of the dancers got sick while hanging in the air and had to be replaced.
  • Before getting together with Kurt Cobain, Courtney had been married to a transvestite.
  • Her daughter thinks Courtney is a cool mother, because she introduced her to the Spice Girls.
  • 'Celebrity Skin' is also the name of an American magazine with nude pictures of famous people.
  • Courtney once met American vice-president Al Gore, who said he was a big fan.
  • She asked him to name the title of one of her songs, but he couldn't.

The quotes below are from the Australian TV show "Rage", and they were all sent to me by Jacs.

MISS WORLD

Courtney: This is Miss World which is a good video directed by Sophie Miller who went on to make Gwen Stefani look great in that abyssmal song of theirs. (laughing) What's that fuckin' song called? Don't sing? I hate that song! I don't mind her. That band is ok but that song drives me nuts!! You know what - at the end - the thing that drives me nuts... "Hush hush darlin, hush hush darlin". It's like bad, it's like bad 80's pop.
Melissa: Gloria Estefani?
Courtney: The worst of it. It's just tasteless. But anyway the video's good. Sophie Miller's a really good director... um and she knows how to make women look.. pretty. All the little girls are really spangly and it's a very cute video.
Melissa: Yeah.

DOLL PARTS

Courtney: This is Doll Parts which you guys (Sam and Melissa) weren't around for the writing of.
Melissa: Jennifer Finch is in the video.
Courtney: Jennifer Finch from L7 is in this video yeah... It was a really sad time, lots of people had died... um and Jennifer filled in for our bass player at the time (looks and points up) That monkey went to heaven. So this is Doll Parts. I wrote this in Boston. I wrote this song in Joyce Linehan's apartment. I was really impressed. She was a lower level music executive and she had lots of matching bodyshop shampoo and I'd never seen that before. And I thought one day I'll have enough money and all my cosmetics are gonna match. I also thought that the guy I was going out with - who I later married... and that wasn't the transvestite in Las Vegas the other time... I thought that he didn't like me and that he liked this total poser idiot girl, so I wrote this song about him and it's called Doll Parts."

VIOLET

Courtney: This is a video of ours called Violet. This is right after we got off our first tour with Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails and I was having a problem. Melissa, would you like to share what that problem was?
Melissa: She couldn't fit into her leather pants at the time so we ripped them off...
Courtney: Yeah but who did I think I was?!
Melissa: Trent.
Eric: You had NINitis.
Courtney: I had NINitis. I had bad Trent Reznor-itis. I thought I was Trent Reznor for like a month... and this video captures the moment of my liberation.
Melissa: But this is a good video.
Courtney: Yeah but that's cause you guys kicked my ass and told me to stop thinking I was Trent.
Melissa: But I like all the sex pole dancing.
Courtney: It wasn't [Trent] the sexpole dancing was me. That was post - I was liberated, I didn't think I was Trent anymore but right before the video...
Melissa: Oh before the video, the video is not reflective, the video reflects a very well thought out art project.

SOFTER, SOFTEST

Courtney: This is unplugged Softer, Softest and it's one of the first times me and Melissa really started singing together - and I really love it for that.
Melissa: And it was filmed on Valentines Day.
Courtney: Un uh... Brooklyn
Samantha: Brooklyn's in da house.
Courtney: It's in the house.

CELEBRITY SKIN

Courtney: This next one is Celebrity Skin which was another art project that went horribly wrong. The video was fine but it could have been alot better for what it cost... and... that's what happens when you give first time directors a shot. Oh... sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. So, um we tried to commenteer this video, it's alright, oh... we ended up editing it...
Melissa: Good glitters.
Courtney: Good glitters, there was a whole idea here that just... Anyway it's ok, it's good.

MALIBU

Courtney: (to Melissa) Tell them about Malibu. Melissa directed this video, and Sam shot it.
(they all laugh)
Melissa: Um... Apocalypse, beach, fire with beauty and water and those are Baywatch-cloned women at the end.
Courtney: They weren't supposed to be, but they came out Baywatch. I like that they came out Baywatch.
Melissa: Me too.
Courtney: It wasn't supposed to come out that way...
Melissa: Enjoy it.
Courtney: Great director.
Eric: That's not me waxing the surfboard.
Courtney: That's Eric waxing the surfboard.
Eric: No it's not, it's Marilyn Manson. I wasn't there.
Melissa: That is funny that Marilyn bought that up last night. We were up for drinks and Marilyn said 'Eric, gonna go wax that surfboard?'
Courtney: Eric grew up on the beach and his skin was too white to surf. He grew up in San Pedro, an absolute surf community.
Melissa: He didn't fit in. Eric didn't fit in but now he does.
Eric: You're blowing my cover!! I'm a surfer, I'm a surfer! All you Australians out there - I'm a surfer.
Courtney: You are a surfer. You do know how to surf, it's just that you roast in the sun, right?
Eric: It just takes me a few years of getting used to the sun.
Courtney: Umm... Ok, that's it. We have to go now, and go do our stuff. It's been a pleasure. Thank you very much.
