What is Leadership Sandy Springs?

Leadership Sandy Springs (LSS) was founded in 1986 to identify leadership potential in our community and rally those individuals for community action and improvement. Originally sponsored by the Sandy Springs Chamber of Commerce, it is now a separately chartered non-profit organization governed by its own Board of Trustees.

Each year, Leadership Sandy Springs forms a class of individuals with diverse backgrounds who have demonstrated a high degree of community involvement and commitment. The organization's mission is to "identify, educate and develop Sandy Springs leaders and encourage their participation in addressing the needs of our community."

Through a carefully planned series of program days and activities, participants learn about the Sandy Springs area, interact with elected officials and community leaders, and study issues facing our changing community. Leadership Sandy Springs has close ties with many community organizations and collaborates on many community initiatives and projects.

Who belongs in Leadership Sandy Springs?

LSS membership includes professionals from major corporations, lawyers, representatives from Sandy Springs non-profit agencies, doctors, small business owners, educators, government officials, community volunteers and activists and more. What's Happening at Leadership Sandy Springs?

The heart of Leadership Sandy Springs is our annual LSS Class of partcipants who attend a year of program days and events. However, class members and alumni alike stay very active with Leadership Sandy Springs. Members serve on the LSS Board of Trustees, assist in planning LSS Class programs and events and serve in leadership positions of the major organizations in Sandy Springs. In addition to annual Program Days for our current class, there are other opportunities for learning and networking.

  • Community Involvement. Members continue to work with past class projects, such as SSRI and the Youth Enrichment Program to ensure the ongoing benefit to the community. LSS works closely with other organizations on projects such as the Sandy Springs Festival. Graduates are often asked to serve on boards of directors, task forces, advisory committees, and other forums that help determine the future of Sandy Springs.

  • Evening Discussion Sessions and Book Discussions give LSS Alumni the opportunity to delve into important issues impacting all those who live and work in Sandy Springs and keep them informed and enabling them to interact with our current community leaders.

  • Social Events provide the opportunity for continued networking among graduates and current class.

  • Volunteering for a Better Sandy Springs is an annual community service day sponsored by LSS where LSS Alumni join with others in the community to tackle projects that benefit our community.

  • Quarterly Newsletter. LSS publishes a newsletter reporting on activities of alumni, students, and Sandy Springs activities. We also publish an alumni directory.

  • Leadership Development. Through class programs and speakers LSS graduates hone their leadership skills making them more effective in our community as well as their workplace.

What is the Program that Leadership Members Attend?

Each class, usually 25 members, attends a series of events from September until May. The program is comprised of four elements: opening and closing retreats, seven program days, and six evening discussion sessions. During the year each class member will participate in a small group to plan and implement a community project.
